Substance (developped by Allegorithmic ) is one of the unsung heroes of AAA game development. It is used by the vast majority of game studios, and was recently called on to help create Call of Duty: Black Ops III, Forza Motorsport 6, and Rainbow Six Siege to name just a few. It would be easier to list the major developers that don’t use Substance. Sr., Tech Artist at Ubisoft Montreal, Lucas Granito, recently sat down to discuss how his studio used Substance while creating Rainbow Six Siege. It’s an interesting look at the making of the game, and a closer look at one of the most important programs being used in AAA game development today: texturing.
