  • I have had the great pleasure of visiting the the Weta Cave and taken the all too short but so, so interesting Weta Tour.

I saw how they made the guns from District 9, a vehicle used in the movie, uniforms of all kind and machines being built which will make it easier to make models and props. Such an interesting and artistic environment to be engulfed in and could only imagine what was behind the doors and windows which led to the real workshops where they were working on The Lord of The Rings props, armour and weapons etc.

This would be a dream job to work there and as I have an interest in art in general I was filled with questions for the young South African tour guide who did a great job answering the hundreds of questions I posed. Timing was great as the sculptor/artist Craig Campbell, was working on a project in the space and I had a long discussion with him and how he got started with Weta.

I continue to follow the progress of Weta and have met Sir Richard Taylor, artist Paul Tobin and , other artists and technicians while attending Comicon in San Diego.

Recently I have been watching Adam Savage and his visit to Weta Workshops and have seen in great detail to what extent Weta have been involved in the making of Ghost The Shell.

So if you want to learn more, plan a vacation to Wellington. In fact, while you are there head up to Hobitton for a real life experience.
